Careers Convention



The Careers Convention is an annual event where recent Electrical Engineering graduates and senior engineers from the electricity industry meet our current Electrical Engineering students and guests, to discuss career opportunities and pathways for young engineers.

Past Conventions

2017

Our recent Careers Convention was held on Wednesday 2 August 2017. Ryno Verster, General Manager: Asset Management and Network Transformation at Powerco, provided an entertaining speech about career paths, and the diverse range of opportunities for electrical engineering graduates. There was also an interactive industry panel discussion, moderated by Juliet Clendon (EEA). Representatives from the different electricity sectors (Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Consulting and Research) provided insight about their journey and their careers paths. Key companies present included BECA, EEA, Electrix, Mercury, Meridian Energy, Mitton Electronet, PBA, Powerco and Transpower.

2016

The 2016 Careers Convention was held on Wednesday 27 July 2016. Andrew Renton, Senior Principal Engineer at Transpower was our keynote speaker. Andrew presented an overview of the electricity industry, the different sectors that comprise the industry and the diverse range of opportunities for electrical engineering graduates. Key companies present included BECA, EEA, Electrix, Marlborough Lines, Meridian, Mitton ElectroNet, Orion, PBA, PowerCo, Transpower and Cigre.

2015

The 2015 Careers Convention took place on Tuesday 28 July 2015. Key companies present included BECA, Meridian, Transpower, and Orion, and the keynote speaker was Dr Wade Enright, a senior lecturer at UC.
