About EPECentre

New Zealand’s first Centre of Excellence in Electric Power Engineering was launched at the Electricity Engineers Association Conference on Friday 21 June 2002. The EPECentre is hosted within the College of Engineering at the University of Canterbury. While the EPECentre’s initial goal was to fulfil the purpose of the Power Engineering Excellence Trust (PEET), it has recently grown a strong research capability. As a result, the EPECentre is New Zealand's Centre of Research Excellence for Electric Power Engineering. Its core areas of operation are education, research and industry interaction. The EPECentre is funded by the New Zealand electricity industry via  PEET, research funders, and consultancy work.

The EPECentre works to encourage greater numbers of students into power engineering courses at UC, to establish stronger relationships between students and the industry, to increase the quantity of high achieving electric power engineers in New Zealand, and to create and foster power engineering innovation and research.
